After Buenos Aires and Iguazu, we wanted to go to Tucumán and visit our friends! However, when looking at the map, we found out there was a National Park in the way (Parque Nacional Chaco) and we decided to pay a visit ! Bought a bus ticket to Resistencia (nearest city) and booked a hostel room. |
We then had a "nice" surprise.. This was a pay-per-hour hostel! As it was quite late we had no option but to stay there.. The conditions were not the best!
The next day we walked around to find another accommodation option and we were easily spotted as the only foreigners around! Resistencia is quite a warm and dry city, this weather allowed that many cockroaches were seen on the street. (big and disgusting ones - we will spare you the pictures !)
We bought the bus ticket to the park (you had to travel to a nearer village - Capitan Solari, 2 hours away from Resistencia) and there we went! We crossed deserted villages one after the other and the driver finally told us to hop off in one of them!

Maybe because it was Sunday the village seemed pretty empty. The National Park info point was closed and there was no taxi or "remis" nearby. We started to ask around how to get to the Park and ended up interrupting a family lunch to speak to the man in charge! The solution found was simple:
Finally, after almost three hours since Resistencia we had reached the park! The ranger on duty made us feel very welcomed but then... it started to rain. That meant that hiking some of the trails was unadvised, but, even worst, if the rain kept coming the way back to Captain Solari could be cutted !!! "You can always camp here", he said smiling!
Sadly, the rain didn't stop pouring down on us! (it hadn't rained for 2 months!) and the ranger offered us a ride back to Capitan Solari so that we wouldn't have to sleep in the park.
After such a long trip we could only see the entrance of the park!!
